Monotype:

A painterly process where the artist applies ink onto a plastic plate
and then transfers the image to a piece of damp printmaking paper by
running it through the etching press. This is a process that lends
itself to spontaneity and painterly mark making. This class will
cover the basics of ink and water based monotype printing including
papers, plates, choosing the type of ink suitable for your imagery as
well as an introduction into using stencils with monoprinting.

Linoleum Cut

This is a subtractive process where you use a sharp tool to gouge out
of a linoleum plate the areas you do not want to print. Wherever you
have cut away the plate will print white (or the color of the paper)
and the areas you have left untouched will accept ink and print on
your paper. This is a very graphic process that lends itself to bold
imagery. The creation of tone is possible with the addition of hatch
marks. This class covers plate preparation and cutting, image
generation appropriate for this process, and paper choices.

Plexiglass Intaglio

This process is similar to traditional intaglio with the exception of
the plates used. We will use drypoint needles to carve linear images
into a small sheet of plexiglass. Ink is then spread onto the plate
and rubbed into the lines and printed using an etching press. We will
also create the illusion of multiple plates while still using only
one with the addition of chine colle and monoprinting. This process
is suited to imagery that is very linear in nature with less emphasis
on solid areas of tone.
